Dr Marcel Petiot (1897-1946) was a French doctor who was convicted of murder after the discovery of the remains of twenty-six people in his home in Paris. He claimed to be a member of the French resistance offered to help his victims leave the country. Instead he killed them and stole their belongings. He later admitted to up to sixty-three murders. He was executed by guillotine on 26th May 1946
