The Margarita or "marguerita" is the most common of tequila-based cocktails. It is reportedly named after Rita Hayworth, whose real name was Margarita Carmen Cansino.

Recipe:

  • 3 parts of tequila
  • 2 parts orange flavored liqueor (Cointreau, Grand Marnier, Triple Sec, or Curacao)
  • 1 part of fresh lime juice

Preparation for "rocks" margarita (over ice cubes):
  1. Combine ingredients in an ice filled shaker - shake until cold.
  2. Moisten rim of glass with lime.
  3. Dip rim of glass in coarse salt.
  4. Fill glass with ice cubes.
  5. Pour contents of shaker into glass.
  6. Garnish with slice or wedge of lime.
