In Judaism, according to the Book of Jubilees, Mastema is the chief of the demons engendered by the fallen angels (demons) with women.

As some legends say, God intervened, leaving him the control of one tenth of these demons in order to serve Satan on Earth. Mastema counselled God to test Abraham, aided the Egyptian priests that opposed Moses, killed the firstborns of the Egyptians, and intended to kill Moses too, but unsuccessfully. He is considered, besides of a rebel angel, an accuser and executioner.

However, in the Book of Jubilees he is also compared with Satan in more than one occasion, being also the one who suggested God to test Job.
