Meetup is a online service facilitating group meetings. The groups are unified by common interest, such as LiveJournal or Wikipedia; over 1000 groups use the service.
In 2003, U.S. Presidential Candidate Howard Dean started using Meetup as a major portion of his campaign. Soon thereafter, supporters of presidential candidates became a large portion of the clientele of the site.[1]
