In Greek mythology, Momus was the god of mockery, writers, poets and unfair criticism. He was a son of Nyx. He mocked Hephaestus for making mankind without doors in their breast through which their thoughts could be seen. He mocked Aphrodite for being talkative and having creaky sandals. Because of his constant criticism, he was exiled from Mt. Olympus.

Inspired by the god, Momus is the name of a New Orleans Carnival Krewe.
