Nadia Younes (June 13, 1946 - August 19, 2003) was an Egyptian national who spent her entire career in the United Nations and the World Health Organization, rising to high-level posts in a variety of areas. She was serving temporarily as Chief of Staff for Sérgio Vieira de Mello in Baghdad, and died of her wounds in de Mello's office following the Canal Hotel bombing. WHO's official tribute to her reads in part "...WHO mourns the loss of one of its most respected, effective and charismatic officials". The Reuters news agency referred to her as "witty" and "with a sharp sense of humor".
She was born in Cairo, Egypt, and earned a Master of Arts degree in political science and international relations from New York University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from Cairo University. She spoke French, English and Arabic fluently.
