Newport is a village located in Herkimer County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 640.

United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²). 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 10.53% water.

census of 2000, there are 640 people, 262 households, and 165 families residing in the village. The population density is 484.5/km² (1,256.1/mi²). There are 289 housing units at an average density of 218.8 persons/km² (567.2 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 99.22% White, 0.47% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.31% from two or more races. 0.16% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 262 households out of which 32.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.9% are married couples living together, 12.6% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 37.0% are non-families. 33.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.44 and the average family size is 3.10. In the village the population is spread out with 25.6% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 18.9% who are 65 years of age or older.
