The Norwegian University of Science and Technology, known as NTNU after its Norwegian name Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet, is located in Trondheim and is attended by about 20,000 students. It is one of four universities in Norway, the other three being the University of Oslo, the University of Bergen and the University of Tromsų.
The university was formed in 1996 by the fusion of the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH) and AVH. Prior to this, the two colleges were joined in the University of Trondheim, which was a much looser organization.
