Order of the Battle Red Banner, a.k.a. Order of the Red Banner was established during the Civil war in Russia by the Soviet government. It continued later on as the award of the Soviet government of the USSR.

There existed similar orders established by the governments of several other constituent and nonconstituent Soviet republics.

O.B.R.B. was awarded for military deeds.It should not be mixed up with the Order of the Toil (Labor) Red Banner established later for the accomplishments in labor and civil service.

Before the establishment of the Order of Lenin, O.B.R.B. was the highest military award of the USSR.

Practically all well-known Soviet commanders were the Cavaliers of O.B.R.B.
