A ponytail is a hairstyle in which most or all of the hair on one's head is pulled back and hangs down behind the head, held in place through the use of some device, generally a hair tie or a Scrunchie. It is called a "ponytail" due to its apparent resemblance with the tail of a pony or horse. The ponytail is more commonly found on women than on men, although male use of it is increasing. It may perform an aesthetic function, or a more utilitarian one (keeping long or thick hair out of the face and eyes).
