History

Porthmadog FC was founded in 1884. The 1950s, 1960s and 1970s were successful decades for the club, winning the Welsh Amateur Cup in 1955/56 and 1956/57. After losing their amateur status, and signing Mel Charles, more success came to the Traeth. They had to wait until 1989/90 to win the Welsh Alliance, but this was enough to ensure Porthmadog's place as inaugural members of the Cymru Alliance in 1990. In 1992, Porthmadog became inaugural members of the League of Wales, but they were relegated back to the Cymru Alliance at the end of the 1997-98 season. However they won the Alliance by an astounding 19 point lead in the 2002-03 season and have been promoted back into the League of Wales.
