Most of the city of Portsmouth is located on the island. To the East lies Langstone Harbour, to the West lies Portsmouth Harbour. To the South is the Solent. To the North a small channel, almost a moat separates the island from the mainland ,the large island of Great Britain. There are ferries to Gosport, Hayling Island, the Isle of Wight.
