Producers Chair is an online game with a concept similar to fantasy football leauge type games. Essentially, a new registrant is given a $65,000,000 pot from which to start making films. The player names his film production company and pitches a new film idea. He chooses a title, category, a source (if applicable) and casts the film, also choosing a director. He then writes a 35-100 word synopsis of the film. Every week pitches go into a voting mode, and are reviewed by players. At the end of the week, pitches are given a green light or red light based on votes. Green lighted films can then go into production phase.
In production, a player essentially writes a script for his film, designs a web site and a poster. He promotes the film with contests, advertisements and such. Each part of the production contest costs money. He is charged $10,000,000 initially for promotion regardless of how he uses it (he can choose from several production companies for assistance in web or poster design.) His film can cost anywhere from $3,000,000 (for arthouse) to $40,000,000 (for sci-fi.) He is also charged individually for actors and directors, based on fees established from their currently real life going-rates.
Once the film is released into the PC Multiplex, players vote on films every day and the film stays in the theater until it's performance warrants that it be removed in place of a new release.
As of 2003 the site and game are defunct; this is due in part to a transfer of the domain name to a new owner of the game who didn't maintain the site efficiently.
