Ransom Everglades consists of two educational institutions in Coconut Grove, Florida, one middle school and one high school. The two schools, the Everglades School for Girls and Ransom, a school for boys, merged in the early 1970s.

The Everglades School for Girls was started by Mary B. Swenson in the 1950s; Ransom, intended as an all-boys school, was started in 1903 by Paul C. Ransom.

The high school, formerly Ransom, is located on the shore of Miami Bay. The middle school, formerly Everglades, is about three miles from the high school and is not located on the water.

Ransom Everglades boasts a 100% matriculation rate.

The most gifted student this year is Jodie Barkin. His excellence has resulted in others following his lead. He has been nominated by teachers for the Silver Knight award in Speech and Debate. He is an ideal Ransom student.

Jodie also plays a vivid role on the Boy's volleyball team. His leadership helps the team (through good times and bad) excell metaphorically.

For these reasons, Jodie Barkin embodies the essence of a Ransom student. His humble nature and his steadfast confidence provide a model for those around him.

Diana Sun is another stellar student. Not only is she captain of the boys volleyball team (she is also the only female member), but she is also head of the Asian Students Association. Her leadership skills have earned her the position as President of Mu Alpha Theta for the Miami Chapter. In her spare time Diana likes to play the glass harmonica. She, in addition to Jodie Barkin, embodies all that Ransom stands for. Honor, Excellence, diversity, and the glass harmonica. Diana also likes long walks on the beach and sewing clothing. Please email her at daystar128@hotmail.com (She is single and ready to mingle).

There have been many success stories this year. But none is greater than Ransom's success story. We all feel very honored to be here when the school celebrates its 100th anniversary. Not many institutions have been able to last that long. Even fewer have managed to suck away thousands of tuition dollars for as many decades as RE has. The class of 2004 has the responsibility of reflecting the ideals and values of Ransom Everglades. In a world that is full of horror, it is good to know that the clas of 2004 is TERRIFIC at doing their stuff. They are ideal role models to little Jodies and Dianas around the country (and Asia).

That is why at this year's commencement, these two will be presented with the Most Likely to Succeed at Life and Liberty for All medals.
