Sambajiraje Bhonsle ascended the throne after Shivaji. Though bold and chivalrous like his father Shivaji, Sambaji was vain and stubborn. He was after pleasure and pomp. He did not trust his officers and treat them well. Often, for no fault of theirs they were severely punished. Samaji was finally captured and killed by Aurangzeb who was trying to prevent the spread of Hindu religion in India.
