Sanborn Township is a township located in Alpena County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 2,152.

Geography

United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 128.8 km² (49.7 mi²). 113.5 km² (43.8 mi²) of it is land and 15.3 km² (5.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 11.84% water.

census of 2000, there are 2,152 people, 838 households, and 619 families residing in the township. The population density is 19.0/km² (49.1/mi²). There are 979 housing units at an average density of 8.6/km² (22.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 98.23% White, 0.23% African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.09% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. 0.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 838 households out of which 32.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.3% are married couples living together, 9.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.1% are non-families. 22.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.54 and the average family size is 2.96. In the township the population is spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 100.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.1 males.
