The sebacous gland is a gland that is basically located under the skin.  It is commonly associated with hair follicles but tey can be found in hairless regions of the skin as well.  This gland is responsible for secreting an oily substance named sebum.  This sebum basically protects the skin from drying out.  It also lubricates the skin and protects them sin membranes from irritation.  A disorder of the sebaceous gland is that of the enlargement of this gland called sebaceous hyperplasia.  This conditon affects older to middle aged adults.  The symptoms of this condidtion are 1-5mm papules on the skin, mainly on the forehead nose and cheeks and sebarrhoeic facial skin. Acne is also a symptom of this excessive secretion of sebum.
