Semicha is an ancient Judaic concept. It involves a person who has received holy commission and the authoritative knowledge of Torah acting as a transmitter of the authority to scholarly disciples of the Law to function as duly constituted teachers and judges of compliance to the ordinances of God.

Moses served as a spokesperson for God, and was blessed to be one who was brought into the physical presence of God for consecration, and was throughout his special mission in closer contact with God than any other recorded human. That special state allowed him to exercise the authority of passing on the power and authority to function as the educator in the Law and guide in principles for righteous living by the people of God.
