Settlers of Catan

Objective In the Oceans maps the main obective is to explore uncharted regions of the sea in order to expand your empire. I quote, "How can you gain any fruit, if you do not go out on the limb?". That is the risk, and maybe reward, of Oceans maps. You never know what your giong to reap on spending your valuable resources on boats that may become meaningless or very worthwile to your cause of domination. There are no victory points awarded in this scenario, other than that of which is pulled via the developement cards. Thie winner is the first to obtain (12) Victory Points.

In the Oceans scenarios, all players must place their initial settlements on the viewable island, per the scenario's instructions. Remember, the object of this scenario is to explore. Thus the goal each Catanist should have is to to eventually harvest resources of the unknown sea. The unknown sea should have random resources & random oceans placed upside down - so as to not be viewable - in the designated areas. Should someone build a boat in order to discover the unknown hex, then they should place their boat toward that hex. When the boat touches the corner of the unknown hex, that hex is immediately turned over and revealed to all players. Whatever the resource of the hex is, the discovering player should be awarded. However, if it is simply an ocean hex, then "tuff luck", there is no resource awarded. Note: You don't have to have just ships to discover new hexes. If you have built a settlement on a newly discovered island, and then decide to build a road, instead of a boat, off into the unknown, then whatever hex is revealed would apply to the same discovery rules as if a boat.
