The Southern League is a minor league baseball league which operates in the Southern United States. The original league was formed in 1885, but it had to shut down in 1899. A new league, the Southern Association, was formed in 1900, consisting of twelve teams. The Association ended in 1961. In 1965, the South Atlantic League (also known as the SALLY), changed its name to the Southern League and changed its status from D level baseball to AA. This league has continued since.

The league is divided into two divisions, the East Division and the West Division.
