Main Page | See live article | Alphabetical index The Spelling Bee is an American competition in which children spell words. The words increase in difficulty as the competition progresses. Presumably it was set up by someone noticing that spelling in children was getting lax and some enticement was needed to get children to spell better. In the competition only the American spelling of words is acceptable. The bee has been running for at least 30 years and is currently sponsored by Scripps Howard. This article is from Wikipedia.
