As in many New England communities, the formal 'town' includes both a rural area, and with the Village of Stillwater as its center. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,644. Geography Stillwater is located about 20 miles north of Albany, at 42.95° N and 73.64° W. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.7 km², .5 km² of which is water.
