The Subaru Forester, released in the US in 1998, is a lightweight, small SUV based on the Impreza platform and drivetrain. Touted as "the world's first sport utility wagon" it has a large, somewhat boxy cargo area. In some markets, a GT version is sold with a turbo motor from the Subaru Impreza WRX (albeit detuned) which provides class-leading performance.
