Main Page | See live article | Alphabetical index Susan Sontag (born January 16, 1933) is a well-known American essayist and novelist, who is also renowned for her work as a human rights activist. Sontag was in born in New York City, grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and attended high school in Los Angeles. She received her B.A. from the College of the University of Chicago and did graduate work in philosophy, literature, and theology at Harvard and Saint Anne's College, Oxford. On October 12, 2003, Sontag received the Friedenspreis des deutschen Buchhandels (Peace Prize of the German Book Trade) during the Frankfurt Book Fair.
