The racial makeup of the city is 55.36% White, 32.24% African American, 0.36% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 9.74% from other races, and 1.73% from two or more races. 17.57% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 4,605 households out of which 35.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.4% are married couples living together, 18.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.5% are non-families. 25.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.77 and the average family size is 3.30.
