It is about an orphan girl called Sophie (thought to have been inspired by Dahl's granddaughter Sophie Dahl) who finds herself in a land full of giants. The BFG ("Big Friendly Giant") himself doesn't eat children, as he is a nice vegetarian. Sophie becomes the BFG's friend and they work to rid the world of the nasty human-eating giants.
