The Cheeky Girls are Monica and Gabrielle Irimia, twin sisters from Transylvania, Romania. The sisters were born on October 31, 1982 to Doru and Margit Irimia.

Their early life in Romania consisted of studying gymnastics and ballet where they toured with the Hungarian National Opera. Moving to the United Kingdom with their mother in 2002, the girls shot to fame as the Cheeky Girls after auditions on the British TV shows, Popstars:The Rivals and Channel Four's Model Behaviour.

Although they failed to pass the auditions for either shows, they received enough publicity to launch pop careers, releasing four singles and a debut album in the UK, and also touring Europe and Asia.

Their music is primarly disco-pop, and is generally thought to be aimed at young children. All their songs are written by their mother, who acts as their manager. The lyrics are simplistic and usually contain the phrase, Cheeky Cheeky.

Despite their apparent lack of talent (they have never performed singing live), they have had continued success in the UK, hitting the headlines on various occassions such as when they entered the cockpit of a KLM flight from Amsterdam to Heathrow sparking complaints from passengers that the plane could have crashed; and also when they were mugged in London's Oxford Street.
