The Shirelles were an influential girl group in the early 1960s. The band formed in New Jersey, and went on to release a series of hits including "Baby It's You", "Soldier Boy", "Dedicated to the One I Love", "Mama Said" and "Boys". Their "Sha La La" became an international hit when covered by Manfred Mann. In spite of a lack of hits after the mid 1960s, the Shirelles continued recording for a small but devoted audience well into the 1970s. They were eventually inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
