Initially, the Highlander was only capable of using petrol as a fuel, but later (at the 2004 North American International Auto Show), Toyota introduced a hybrid version, the Highlander Hybrid (CanadianDriver Communications, Inc., 2004). According to J. Press (as cited in CanadianDriver Communications, Inc., 2004), who at that time was the Chief Operating Officer of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., Toyota planned to offer the Highlander Hybrid to the public in early 2005.
