Main Page | See live article | Alphabetical index Four ships of the United States Navy have been named USS Annapolis, after the city of Annapolis, Maryland, home of the United States Naval Academy. The first Annapolis (PG-10) was a gunboat commissioned in 1897 and in periodic service until 1919, then used as a training ship until 1940. The second Annapolis (PF-15) was a patrol vessel in service from 1944 to 1946, and sold to Mexico in 1947. The escort aircraft carrier Gilbert Islands (CVE-107) was converted to a communications relay ship and renamed Annapolis (AGMR-1) in 1963, serving in that role for several years. The fourth Annapolis (SSN-760) is a Los Angeles-class attack submarine commissioned in 1992 and on active service as of 2003. This article is from Wikipedia.
