USS Ault DD-698 was a Sumner class destroyer named for Commander William Bowen Ault, USN, Air group commander aboard USS Lexington CV-2. MIA May 8,1942 after leading an air attack in the Battle of the Coral Sea he was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for his action in the battle .

Built by Federal Shipbuilding Company, Kearny, N.J Ault was laid down November 15, 1943, launched March 26, 1944, sponsored by Mrs. Margaret Ault, Commander Ault's widow. Ault was commissioned May 31, 1944 and underwent FRAM conversion 1962

After the Ault was decommissioned, it was sold and broken up for scrap

Ault was present in Tokyo Bay for the Japanese surrender aboard the USS Missouri on September 2, 1945.

Ault earned five battle stars for her service in World War II and an additional two for her service off Vietnam.
