Woodford County is a county located in the U.S. State of Kentucky. As of 2000, the population is 23,208. Its county seat is Versailles6.

Woodford County is home to Woodford Reserve, the Kentucky Bourbon manufactured at the Labrot & Graham Distillery, which, established in 1812, is the oldest Bourbon distillery in Kentucky.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 497 km² (192 mi²). 494 km² (191 mi²) of it is land and 3 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.68% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 23,208 people, 8,893 households, and 6,643 families residing in the county. The population density is 47/km² (122/mi²). There are 9,374 housing units at an average density of 19/km² (49/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 92.08% White, 5.41% Black or African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.31% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.13% from other races, and 0.93% from two or more races. 2.99% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 8,893 households out of which 35.00% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.90% are married couples living together, 9.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.30% are non-families. 21.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 2.99.

In the county the population is spread out with 25.40% under the age of 18, 7.90% from 18 to 24, 31.20% from 25 to 44, 25.10% from 45 to 64, and 10.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 93.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.20 males.
