The term aborigine refers to the original inhabitants of a country colonised by some other more technologically-advanced cultural grouping (see indigenous people). However, the term is not appreciated by some people, who prefer the expression 'Aboriginal people'. Many Aboriginal races have been the object of Genocide.

In common usage (although this may be seen as derogatory), this term refers specifically to the original inhabitants of Australia or of Taiwan. 'Aboriginal' however can be used as a term to refer to any original or first nation.
