census of 2000, there are 11,586 people, 5,348 households, and 3,171 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,045.2/km² (2,704.4/mi²). There are 5,521 housing units at an average density of 498.1/km² (1,288.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 92.66% White, 1.69% African American, 0.10% Native American, 2.28% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 1.63% from other races, and 1.62% from two or more races. 3.88% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 5,348 households out of which 22.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.3% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 40.7% are non-families. 36.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.16 and the average family size is 2.84.
