One cedi is divided into hundred pesewas (though the smallest coin is currently 20 cedis) In 1983, the exchange rate was 90 cedis per US$1. In 1993, the rate was 720 cedis per US$1. In 2003, the rate has been between 8500 and 8800 cedis per US$1. The 1000 cedi note was introduced in 1991. 2000 and 5000 cedi notes are also available.
