census of 2000, there are 79,269 people, 30,954 households, and 20,243 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,071.3/km² (2,774.6/mi²). There are 32,068 housing units at an average density of 433.4/km² (1,122.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 89.19% White, 3.69% African American, 0.30% Native American, 3.28% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.93% from other races, and 1.57% from two or more races. 4.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 30,954 households out of which 28.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.2% are married couples living together, 12.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.6% are non-families. 29.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.41 and the average family size is 3.01.
