Kalisz is a city in central Poland with 106,800 inhabitants (1995) and an area of 71,4 km2. Situated on the Prosna river in the Greater Poland Voivodship since 1999, previously capital of Kalisz Voivodship (1975-1998).

Sometimes Kalisz is called "the oldest town of Poland" because of mentioning by Ptolemy a town called Calisia that was situated on the Amber Trail.
