Lake County is a county located in the U.S. State of Indiana. As of 2000, the population is 484,564. The county's county seat is Crown Point, Indiana6. This county is part of Chicagoland.

There are 194,992 housing units at an average density of 151/km² (392/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 66.72% White, 25.33% Black or African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.82% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 4.96% from other races, and 1.85% from two or more races. 12.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
