Mam Tor is a 1,695 feet / 508 metre high peak near Castleton in the High Peak of Derbyshire, England. Its name literally translates as Heights of the Mother and it is also known as the Shivering Mountain on account of the instability of its lower shale layers. Indeed, the A625 road now comes to a dramatic stop at the walls of the hillside, as a consequence of a landslide.

At the base of the Tor are the Blue John Cavern and Treak Cliff Cavern where lead, Blue John and other minerals were once mined.
