The New Taiwan dollar is the official currency of the Republic of China (on Taiwan). It is issued by the Central Bank of China. The currency was first issued in the early 1950s after the evacation of the ROC government to Taiwan. The first goal of the New Taiwan dollar was to end the hyperinflation which had plague the ROC in its final years on Mainland China. The exchange rate generally hovers around NT$25 = US$1.

In Chinese, the NT dollar is known as the yuan. Subdivisions of the NT dollar are rarely used.
