Square Enix is a Japanese producer of popular video games. The main genre in which Square Enix competes is the "RPG" genre, with such major video game series as the Final Fantasy series and the Dragon Warrior series (also known as Dragon Quest in Japan). Square Enix was the result of a merger between video game companies SquareSoft and Enix. The merger was finalized and took effect on April 1, 2003. Square Enix relocated to a new headquarters in Tokyo three months later.

Square Enix has regional operations, including Square Enix U.S.A., Inc. (for all of North America) and Square Enix Europe Ltd. (for Europe and other areas that use the PAL-television standard).

The Dragon Warrior game franchise has been considered the most popular game series in Japan, according an official poll. The Final Fantasy game franchise has been considered the Square Enix's most important asset, and it is the best selling Square Enix franchise.
