Structural biology is the scientific study of the structure of the components of biological cells. This includes DNA structure and protein structure. Protein structure is often analyzed by X-ray crystallography or NMR.

The importance of structural biology lies in that structure and function are closely related. Knowing the structure of very complex molecules- particularly proteins- allows insight into how these molecules work.
