The Sundance Film Festival is a small, private film festival held annually in Utah. It is hosted at the Sundance Resort and Park City, Utah.

The festival was started by Hollywood personality Robert Redford in 1981. The festival typically showcases promising indie films. The winners of the exposition are carried onto the annual Cannes Film Festival in France.

The establishment of the festival sparked the establishment of the non-profit organization, the Sundance Institute, whose mission is to finance original works, such as indie films which the festival showcases.
