Zadie Smith is an English novelist. She was born in London in 1975.

Her first novel, White Teeth, won the Whitbread First Novel award in 2000, and was made into a short TV series for Channel 4.

Her second novel, The Autograph Man, was published in 2002.

The main character of White Teeth is, like Smith herself, a mixed-race (Black-Carribean/White) Londoner, born in the mid-70s. The main charcter of the second novel is a Jewish/Chineese Londoner.
